Jim Geering - Chula Vista Fire Chief

Jim Geering 

Jim Geering was named Fire Chief in December 2014 after serving as Acting Fire Chief since September 2014. Jim has spent his entire 29-year career with the Chula Vista Fire Department. He has held nearly every rank and position starting with Fire Fighter and including positions such as Fire Engineer, Training Captain, Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Fire Marshal, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, and Interim Fire Chief (in 2008).

Jim has been designated a Certified Fire Chief by the California State Fire Marshal. He was a founding member of the Chula Vista Firefighter's Foundation and of the countywide Firefighters Advisory Council to the Burn Institute. Jim earned a degree in Emergency Management from California State University, Long Beach.

He has been active in the local community including as a Board Member of the Chula Vista Boys and Girls Club and as a youth baseball coach. He was born and raised in Chula Vista and lives here with his wife and four daughters.
