Marilyn Sanderson – Project Peanut Butter

Marilyn is our District Governor Nominee (DG in 2016-17).  She is a current member of the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club, and a Past President.  Marilyn has worked on several District Committees including District Council, District Conference, District Assembly and chair for District Public Relations, as well as the District Governor Executive Aid, for Dick Stevens.

She is originally from Oklahoma, former high school English teacher, union negotiator, and now Realtor in San Diego for 15 years specializing in real estate for seniors, probates and trusts.  Marilyn is married to Jack Cottrell (Old Mission Rotary) with two stepchildren, 6 grandchildren, 10 great nieces & nephews and one West Highland White Terrier.

Marilyn will be describing Project Peanut Butter (PPB)

“In 1999, Dr. Mark Manary moved to Malawi, a hot spot for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), for 10 weeks.  He used this time to figure out the best way to treat malnourished children in the home.  The therapeutic food had to be something that didn’t spoil, didn’t need to be cooked, was easy to use and could get the job done.”  At our District Conference in October, Dennis E. Spurgin, the Liaison for Project Peanut Butter, and President Elect, for Palm Springs Sunup Rotary Club, did a presentation on the project.  The information was so impressive; many attendees wanted Dennis to make the same presentation to their Clubs.  To answer the number of requests Marilyn has become our Liaison for the PPB to clubs in our District. ”Around the world, malnutrition is the number 1 cause of death for children under the age of 5.”
