Wyn Furman
Board Member, Animal Rescuers Without Borders

In 2012, Wyn began volunteering for Animal Rescuers Without Borders (ARWOB), from which she adopted her beloved dogs. A lifelong animal lover, Wyn now helps with the ARWOB’s biweekly events, fundraising, website, social media, and even reviewing applications for the dogs and cats ARWOB has rescued. Wyn, her partner, Ian, and their handsome pup, Freddie, recently began fostering homeless dogs. So far 11 dogs have been in their care, all of whom now have loving “forever homes” thanks to the work of the ARWOB team!

Wyn provides high-level support to the Community Scholarship Program at The San Diego Foundation (TSDF), a community foundation dedicated to preserving and enhancing quality of life throughout the San Diego region. She previously served as TSDF’s Manager of Community Research and originally joined TSDF to support Our Greater San Diego Vision, a community-planning effort that engaged 30,000 people across the region.

A native of Philadelphia, Wyn received her bachelor's degree in European History and French Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Since moving to San Diego in 2009, Wyn has volunteered each year as an alumni interviewer of prospective Penn students.

Since 2013, Wyn has served as communications chair on the board of the San Diego Leadership Alliance. Wyn has been active with Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy since 2010, and served on the steering committee of the San Diego chapter for two years. She is also a member of Women Give San Diego and Run Women Run.  ____________________________________________________________________________

Presentation Topic:  Animal Rescuers Without Borders: Saving Lives Binational

Animal Rescuers Without Borders (ARWOB) is a San Diego-based nonprofit committed to improving the lives of homeless dogs and cats in San Diego County and Baja, Mexico. You probably know that U.S. shelters are bursting at the seams, but are you aware of the rampant overpopulation of animals in the streets of Mexico, where there is no government support for animal control or welfare, and shelters are rare and inadequate?

ARWOB reduces the population of homeless cats and dogs by working directly with community members, as well as through a robust network of other U.S.-based groups and the San Diego County Department of Animal Services. As an all-volunteer organization, ARWOB relies on foster families, adopters, and donors to give animals living a rough life on the street loving, permanent homes.

Every ARWOB animal is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated to give them the healthiest “New Beginning” possible!

You can help!

  • Spay/neuter all pets to reduce litters, prevent common illnesses (particularly cancer), and even limit your dog’s urge to roam or run away.
  • Prioritize adoption because there is surely an adoptable pet out there who is right for you!
  • Pitch in by adopting, fostering, volunteering, donating, and advocating!
