Laura Muñoz Humphreys Bio
Laura Muñoz Humphreys is currently the Executive Director of the Bayside Family YMCA,  which will be built on the Feaster Charter School campus.  Laura was born in Medellin, Colombia, and her family moved to Miami when she was 3 years old.  Laura’s family moved to Los Angeles in 1988 and is a graduate of UC Irvine. She has been involved with the YMCA for 27 years, beginning as a teen in YMCA’s youth leadership development programs and knew at an early age that she wanted to dedicate her life to serving God by working with families and children. Laura was called to the YMCA and has worked with diverse communities in Orange County, Los Angeles and now San Diego.   She has held positions on several advisory Boards, including family resource centers and other collaborations and recently joined the Board at Feaster Charter School.
Laura and her husband are avid travelers and Laura has been involved with the YMCA of the USA’s international program, visiting several YMCA’s throughout the world.  In 2006, was selected to represent YMCA of the USA as an ambassador to YMCAs in Sri Lanka.
Laura spent the last several years at the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles in Executive  roles overseeing the operations of several branches and leading capital and annual campaign efforts.    She recently opened a state-of-the-art aquatics center in Wilmington, which was the first year-round, indoor aquatics center in the community.  She is passionate about meeting the needs of the community through the Y’s work as well as collaborating with other agencies. She and her family moved to Chula Vista in January for the opportunity to open the new Bayside Family Y. She is excited about expanding the partnership with the school through the new facility, as well as seeing the transformation that will occur in the community as a result.
Laura has been a member of several Chambers of Commerce and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary and is currently involved with the Chula Vista Chamber, National City Chamber and South County Economic Development Council.
Laura and David are proud parents to their 3 year-old son, Ryan.  They are really enjoying all of the family-friendly activities in San Diego. Ryan has already been on the move with them traveling and they are hopeful that he will catch their travel bug.  When David and Laura have time to themselves, they enjoy being outdoors as well experiencing the many culinary and cultural delights in San Diego. Laura is really looking forward to forming relationships and serving with the members of Chula Vista’s Rotary.
