Healthy Chula Vista Advisory Commission
The Healthy Chula Vista Initiative's primary goal is to provide residents with tools to lead a healthier lifestyle. The City, in partnership with a variety of agencies throughout the community, intend to respond to identified barriers to healthy living options in the City and collaborate on events and efforts to promote health and well-being in the community. Policy will be guided by the Healthy Chula Vista Advisory Commission which was formed in March 2016. |

LINDA CABALLERO SOTELO Linda Caballero Sotelo is Executive Director of New Americans Museum [NAM] a visual arts & oral histories non traditional institution whose mission is to celebrate & educate about the contributions of multigenerational immigrants post WWII into the American narrative through a variety of vehicles including oral histories, arts & culture programming, creative sector social enterprise ventures, democracy and tolerance building initiatives and leadership development for new Americans. Linda believes in the power of civic engagement & storytelling as tools for social change through the participation and exposure to arts & culture practices as catalysts for building understanding & tolerance amongst communities and civil society. A naturalized US citizen, Linda was born & raised in Tijuana, Mexico. A binational, bicultural, multilingual Fronteriza whose childhood was spent crossing the San Diego/Tijuana border daily seeking educational opportunities. Linda has over 25 years of professional experience as a senior level executive for organizations, national & international projects and initiatives. She has led teams in a variety of corporate, public & non-profit settings heading a strategic consulting business. Other appointments include serving as: president & CEO, San Diego Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; director of marketing & corporate communications, SD Workforce Partnership, and as US director of projects for the internationally acclaimed US/Mexico public art initiative INSITE ‘97 & again for inSite2000 where she was instrumental in the development of over 80 original public art installations & educational exhibitionrelated artistic commissions, curatorial, residencies & production teams in the execution of original world class artistic and social enterprise works along the US/Mexico border. She is a contributing writer & speaker on race, diversity, identity politics, immigration & the intersectionality of arts, culture & social justice movements. She has curated, organized & produced large-scale initiatives, events & educational visual arts programming throughout her career. She serves as a volunteer on a variety of NGO/CBO boards & commissions & holds a BA, Int. Relations & History [UCLA & United State International University-USIU], & an MA in International Business & Economics [Webster-Regents College, UK & London School of Economics]. Tracie Arlington, owner and lead instructor of Play It Safe Defense. She has her black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has been teaching self-defense courses since 1998 to adults, teens and children. Tracie has appeared on Dr. Phil and the Doctor's TV as an expert on self defense and family safety. She is also on the San Diego Crime Stoppers Board of Directors. Her classes have been taught to hundreds of thousands of children, teens & women since 2003. Tracie is also a nationally certified instructor for the Women’s Self-Defense Institute. |

Founded in 2002, SoCAN is a collaborative volunteer group whose mission is to continually improve the quality of life for seniors and adults with disabilities. As the pandemic spread, forcing older adults to isolate at home, SoCAN drafted a pilot program to pair student volunteers with seniors who had limited or no access to friends and family. To overcome the restrictions imposed by stay at home orders, and facilitate safe interaction, iPads would be issued to participants so they can communicate with volunteers, friends, and family when in person visitations are not allowed. Volunteers and participants engage in structured, themed activities that match the participants’ interest, including fitness, nutrition, mental health, and dementia friendly activities. Upon successful completion of the six month program, participants keep the iPad. This program is funded by Community Congregational Development Fund (CCDC).

The Power Point is basically just a series of slides. It takes about 20 minutes to run through on auto. It is divided into three parts - the history of the club including past presidents, sponsoring the Tijuana club, Eisenhower's visit, then the history of philanthropic activities, and finally the history of music and song in our club. I am thinking I would ask one or two Rotarians to join me for "color comments" rather than just run through slides - as long as we keep it to 30 minutes! |
