Reading Legacies

Betty’s background in primary education and nonprofit management has uniquely prepared her for the role of Founder and President of Reading Legacies. Her first nonprofit organization, United Through Reading (UTR), benefited over one million military service members and their families during her 20 years of leadership. Upon turning over the reins of UTR in 2008, she launched Reading Legacies in 2010 in order to reach out to children and youth who lack the emotional support of committed role models or whose lives have been torn apart by parental incarceration. Reading Legacies provides solutions to these devastating societal challenges through the transformational power of the shared reading experience.

The meeting will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Invitation to participate in our Rotary Christmas Program
Our traditional Rotary Choir is not able to present this year.  Nonetheless, the show must go on!  I am calling all talented performing artists to join this year's Holiday Program.  Yes- Albert... we want you to play your guitar.  Ben K, we would love for your glorious voice to serenade us. Michael Monaco, it would not be the same without your original comedy rendition of roasting Rotarians.  Who else is game with hidden talents? You can pre-record your song or perform it live.  Please reach out to me at your convenience:  Neisha 619.857.9163.   Neisha@Neishas.com

 Global and Local COVID-19 Update
It is almost halfway through my President year, and COVID continues to impact Rotary's ability to gather in fellowship.  In general, the pattern seems to be ... we get our numbers down > we begin to open > our numbers go up > we begin to tighten our reopening ... wash, rinse and repeat.

What this pattern tells us is that this pandemic is far from over and we are far from having it under control.  This is when I think about Rotary's role in leading the way to eradicate another global pandemic - Polio.  Rotary continues to be the leader in this fight, and we are this close [*visualize the hand sign].

Rotary can be a model for a pandemic response for COVID-19 too. I found a few interesting articles that I would like to share how Rotary has led and how the work we have done can be a model for COVID-19 response.

I'm also including links to San Diego County's updates and South County updates because you will see that our community's COVID-19 data looks very different than the county's ... and not in a good way ...
