Program Mission

The mission of the Rotary Club of Chula Vista Scholarship Program is to promote the ideals of Rotary by recognizing students' outstanding service to their school and community and their superior academic achievement.

Program Objectives

  • To motivate students in local high schools to experience the value of providing service to their schools and community and to reward some of those who compile outstanding service records.
  • To provide motivation for students in local high schools to reach their potential in academic achievement and to reward some of those who are most successful.
  • To reward students who exhibit highest potential for success in post-high school education and for making future significant contributions to society.

Recognition Program

Rotary Club of Chula Vista Scholarships are made available to graduating seniors at five high schools in the Chula Vista area: Castle Park High School, Chula Vista High School, Hilltop High School, Olympian High School, and Otay Ranch High School. Applicants must be planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college in the fall. Stipends and certificates of recognition are presented directly to recipients at a Rotary Club awards program held prior to graduation.
 
Seniors attending Eastlake High School or Bonita Vista High School should contact the Rotary Club of Chula Vista Eastlake (Sunset) or the Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary Club (Bonita) for information about their scholarship programs. 
 

Selection Criteria

The criteria for selecting recipients for the Rotary Club of Chula Vista “Joseph Rindone Service Scholarship” are, in order of importance:
 
  1. Service: Various types of service and hours served in school and community service activities. Source: Application form, applicant essay, school records (transcript record of service hours).
  2. Academic Achievement: Transcript grades, GPA, rank in class, academic rigor (AP, IB, honors classes). Source: School records (transcript).
  3. Need: Family financial factors, other college financial assistance received, student work record. Source: Application form, applicant essay, input from school counselors.
  4. Co-curricular Activities: Participation in sports, music, clubs, and other school groups. Source: Application form, applicant essay, school records (transcript).
 
The criteria for selecting recipients for the Rotary Club of Chula Vista “Bill Padelford Academic Scholarship” are, in order importance:
 
  1. Academic Achievement: Transcript grades, GPA, rank in class, academic rigor (AP, IB, honors classes). Source: School records (transcript).
  2. Service: Various types of service and hours served in school and community service activities. Source: Application form, applicant essay, school records (transcript record of service hours). 
  3. Need: Family financial factors, other college financial assistance received, student work record. Source: Application form, applicant essay, input from school counselors.
  4. Co-curricular Activities: Participation in sports, music, clubs, and other school groups. Source: Application form, applicant essay, school records (transcript).
 
The criteria for selecting recipients for the Rotary Club of Chula Vista “Veenstra Art Scholarship” are, in order importance:
 
  1. Academics: Intent to study art at Southwestern College. Source: Statement of intent on application. 
  2. Need: Family financial factors, other college financial assistance received, student work record. Source: Application form, applicant essay, input from school counselors.
