On Oct. 21, 1960, President Dwight D. Eisenhower spoke to an international assembly of Rotary Clubs from San Diego County and Tijuana at the San Diego Country Club on "L" Street in Chula Vista. Hosted by Chula Vista Rotarians, who first extended the invitation to the White House, President Eisenhower made the trip from Washington, D.C., to speak on the importance of politics at the local level.
