Founded in 2002, SoCAN is a collaborative volunteer group whose mission is to continually improve the quality of life for seniors and adults with disabilities. As the pandemic spread, forcing older adults to isolate at home, SoCAN drafted a pilot program to pair student volunteers with seniors who had limited or no access to friends and family. To overcome the restrictions imposed by stay at home orders, and facilitate safe interaction, iPads would be issued to participants so they can communicate with volunteers, friends, and family when in person visitations are not allowed. Volunteers and participants engage in structured, themed activities that match the participants’ interest, including fitness, nutrition, mental health, and dementia friendly activities. Upon successful completion of the six month program, participants keep the iPad. This program is funded by Community Congregational Development Fund (CCDC).

The Power Point is basically just a series of slides. It takes about 20 minutes to run through on auto. It is divided into three parts - the history of the club including past presidents, sponsoring the Tijuana club, Eisenhower's visit, then the history of philanthropic activities, and finally the history of music and song in our club. I am thinking I would ask one or two Rotarians to join me for "color comments" rather than just run through slides - as long as we keep it to 30 minutes! |
